JAIPUR CITY MAP

The capital of Rajasthan, Jaipur is named after its founder Sawai Jaisingh prince, soldier, astronomer and builder. The city is known as the pink city because of its rose pink color of old city done to welcome Prince Albert, consort of Queen Victoria in 1863 A.D. The old city is designed by a bengali architect, Vidyadhar Bhattacharya, who laid down the plans as per the rules of vastu - shastra, the hindu treatise. Jaipur was built in the form of a rectangle divided into blocks with roads and avenues running parallel to the sides. City Palace, Jantar Mantar , Hawa Mahal, Govind Devji temple, Central Museum and Ram Niwas Bagh are the major tourist attractions in the City. Within the district Amer (old city of Jaipur), Samod, Bairath, Jaigarh, Nahargarh fort, Sanganer and Ramgarh are the places worth visiting. Handicrafts and bandhej are the specialties of Jaipur.
